love this idea because i know people who play fifa and dont play soccer and they think soccer is just kicking and running after it. Now this shows them what the real game is like and it also makes defending more about the mind.

Very good point. It will be interesting to see how this works!

Welcome to the site. :)

I agree, this will finally make being off the ball have more purpose and it should be fun swell with the new impact engine. Also must require a bit of skill which could be interesting because really good tacklers could cause a new generation of rage quitters, it could even make the gameplay and goals more dull and "sweaty" because it is harder to do skill and run at people, yet there is precision dribbling so there are so many pro and cons I think :)

The new contained style defending in FIFA12 will be superb.....fingers crossed. The idea of it is spot on and the constant pressurising and winning the ball back in previous FIFA's was one of my biggest complaints. Nice to see it addressed and hopefully EA have implemented it correctly.

The pressure thing really did irritate me, and it gave the feeling of having no time or space on the ball anywhere on the pitch and you had to rush everything. It was also one of the main reasons people used to "ping pong" pass around the pitch. Thank god they've got rid of it.

Yip, it was definitely a must this year. For all the technical prowess of FIFA having a major flaw replicating such a massive part of football, defensive play, really took away from the game.....and also had a knock on affect for other areas as you say with ping pong and having no time or space on the ball. If it is sorted well then it will be a massive plus point to the new FIFA :)

Just hope this doesn't make defending too easy, could easily take advantage of pressure abusers.

i had a couple of matches with a friend of mine. in fifa 11 those matches all where kick´n rush and very boring to whatch ;)
now (at least i) we had a lot of side changing balls, which also where very helpfull to get some space even when i attacked very slow. those side changes - i think - where possible because of the bit more time you have when you´re in ball possesion.

so i would say the new defending changes the hole gameplay in a positiv way. also the quick attacks are still possible, but only when the situation allows it.

Yeah Tussle2k, the advantage is definitely with the team who has the ball even more so now.

This makes for more patient football and slows it down a bit more I guess. I am very interested to see how it plays in a 1v1 online.

I changed my button layout to what this guy suggested today, defending does definitely feel better now.

Worth a try if you are finding defending difficult like I am. (y)
