View Full Version : Holding A for Defense

Anybody else driven mad because of this? I play so many people that only hold A while on defense. The beauty of FIFA, for me, is beating a player one-on-one with a great skilled dribbler. However, throw A into the equation and it is nearly impossible. All this turns the game into is a game of ping pong passes like back in FIFA 10. I mean c'mon it's not even that hard to play defense once you get used to jockeying.

The way I see it, people that do this are cutting out half the game. Cheers to anyone who actually defends in any other way.

I don't mind it in all honesty. I don't defend using contain but it simulates the real game better because it doesn't have defenders running sideways trying to cut the man off the ball. I usually just press L1 and make a run with Sturridge or somebody and lob one over the top which almost always results in a goal.

Ruins the game.

Basically everyone I play now uses it. Astonishing that it actually exists in the game, EA seemed to not realise this year that they made the AI play like Barcelona no matter what, so breaking down someone using AI like defending just leads to nothing ever happening.

Your best bet seems to be finding someone fast and bombing down the wing and crossing it. What fun, eh.

Just like the CPU on Clubs Mode, and they have the cheek to tell us its on Professional difficulty.

Not a chance.

I prefer short passes and deep cutting runs, but I cant do that when Pepe is alsways a step ahead of even me. Not to mention that he always catches up to my attackers.....

The use of the AI on this years FIFA for defending is very annoying.

I still just defend the same way as I have always done :D only this time I don't hold A when going near a player to pressure them like it used to work (for standing tackles).

ANYs that use the AI a lot in Pro Clubs can be very irritating. They just stand back while letting the AI go and pressure the attackers. It's horrendous.

Fun fact about my defending method. I never hold down A to contain unless it's gettin' real, and I never, ever press the button for standing tackle.

Costs me sometimes, but it does mean:

Did you prefer the defending system in FIFA 11?

I normally pass it around like Barcelona to try and find a through ball or just go right up to the player and 360 when he tries the tackle.

Did you prefer the defending system in FIFA 11?in all honesty, yes. It was annoying that the whole team charged you.... but if you could dribble, then you could get past them 75% of the time. The AI feel more and more like robots each year.

Truth. Although with my button lag on 11 it was very hard with all the homing missles flying at me.
