Thought I'd set up a thread for all Olympic talk seen as Team GB football team has been announced today.
Team GB squad:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Birmingham), Jason Steele (Middlesbrough).

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham), Craig Dawson (West Brom), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Neil Taylor (Swansea), James Tomkins (West Ham).

Midfielders: Joe Allen (Swansea), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Jack Cork (Southampton), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Danny Rose (Tottenham), Scott Sinclair (Swansea).

Strikers: Craig Bellamy (Liverpool), Marvin Sordell (Bolton), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea).

Glad to see Jack Butland make the squad. Still yet to play at a higher level than League 2. Really does show that he will be an outstanding goalkeeper with the amount of confidence people at the higher level (Hodgson and Pearce) have in him.

I am thinking of going to see one of the Spain games as my local stadium (Ricoh Arena) hasn't got anything good. Mexico are playing there but no Hernandez.

Pearce. Never forgive that man now for not picking Becks. :( Watching Great Britain in the footy would have been fun, but he's just killed it. The game against Brazil was so dull, with no real players of any interest. I'd rather watch paint dry.

Superb video.

I'm hating the Olympics right now.

Living right near Stafford and having every bus and train diverted and rammed full of sweaty people is not getting my in the Olympic spirit...

All the roads closed/blocked off and millions of more people around london is just what i didn't want.

That one word probably best describes David Beckham.

Class.

He is a fantastic role model and considering he's arguably the most popular person in sporting history for worldwide fame, he's kept his head screwed on magnificently. It's just a complete travesty that he isn't representing Great Britain in our own hosted Olympics, the biggest event in sport besides the FIFA World Cup.

I actually don't care much for the Olympics itself. Wimbledon is my personal favourite sporting event, but seeing someone like Becks at the games certainly would have helped people like me take much more of an interest.

Not only that but he's a damn fine footballer and currently in great form. Bottom line.

I watched the Brazil game today, they started off a bit poor but in the 2nd half improved loads. Oscar's goal at the end was very good

Also I was very impressed with how Senegal played today. I know they got a lot of stick from the 1st game but today they played some great stuff. They were far the better team against Uruguay - who were very wasteful and had a man advantage for most of the game. iBrummy not sure if you aware but Senegal's coach is ex-Birmingham City man Aliou Cisse :D

Can't believe how good of a goalkeeper we've got on our hands with Jack Butland. I heard lots of praise for him for when he was at Cheltenham and from the back-room at Birmingham, but never ever thought he'd be this good. Really important we get promoted so we can hopefully keep him for the season after the one coming. Stunning performance again tonight for GB. We'd be out by now if we had Steele in goal. JB's on for big things.

Confirmed Team GB line-up: Team GB: Butland, Taylor, Richards, Caulker, Bertrand, Cleverley, Allen, Bellamy, Ramsey, Sinclair, Sturridge
subs: Steele, Rose, Dawson, Giggs, Tomkins, Cork, Sordell
COME ON LADS!! Bring on South-Korea!! Excited to say the least
So no Ryan Giggs for GB, disappointing for the Wales fans - although Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey do start from the hosting country. And disappointing for Giggs, in his first international finals tournament - brave decisions by Pearce despite Giggs's headed goal against UAE. He started on the bench against Uruguay in the last game of the group stage.

29' GOAL FOR SOUTH KOREA! 1-0! Ji Dong-Won smashes a shot into the far corner halfway up the net from the left corner of the box - but Butland is to blame as it went through his fists. and now PENALTY TO TEAM GB !!! COME ON !!!

YEEEESSSS!! GOOOAAALLL!! Ramsey scores the pen to make it 1-1!! He is lucky as Jung Sung-Ryong dived over it - not a great penalty, but it matters not. GAME ON !!!

TomLFCHeaven

OMG this is crazy!! ANOTHER PENALTY to GB , unreal stuff!! Should be a 2nd yellow & red card for the defender too!! Come on!!

NOOOOO!! SAVED BY JUNG SUNG-RYONG! Another poor penalty from Ramsey, but this one he beats away. The score remains 1-1. Why not let Bellamy or Sturridge take it?? :( or Sinclair?? He is the pen taker at Swansea, he is amazing at pens..

Jake
04 August 2012, 07:28 PM
Jack Butland made a bit of a howler then for their goal. Looks like he just mis-judged the pace of the shot and pushed with his arms a little late.

An alright game at the moment, 2 penalties, 1 scored, 1 missed. Agree with Savage though, both poor, poor penalties by Ramsey. No idea why you'd have a run up like that. Plus their goal.

EDIT: Are you a little behind Tom? It's half time now for us.

South Korea change: this could be crucial - 2010 World Cup keeper Jung Sung-Ryong is forced off, replaced by Lee Bum-Young. After that Bellamy and Ramsey combine to feed Sturridge, who has a path to goal - but he hesitates and allows a defender back to slide-tackle. Exciting game on a knife-edge, anyone can win !

Allen would be great, he is a young talent with great potential.. just not for 15 million! Keep Shelvey, Henderson and sell Spearing and maybe Adam.. Also sign Dempsey & another striker and a winger too !! We need more goalscorers in the team who can beat a defender with dribbling (someone like Adam Johnson)

Just watched a replay of it. Pretty close to the world record again, being 9.58. 0.05 of a difference. If only he started better.

When is 200m?

Lol, I just saw the 100m race, omg he was fast at the end.

The 200m finals is in
9/8
21:55

If it would be possible for some of the Admins in this site to make a bet on 200m sprint, would be awesome!

Bolt is 1/5 - 1/7
and
Blake is 3/1 - 4/1

at most bookies... no one else is getting a look in.

Definitely luck with that call. I can MAYBE see the hand ball but I've never seen a free kick from there. Ever.

I went to the Mexico vs Japan game. A wonderful day out.

Although It wasnt my wisest move to jump up and celebrate Japan's goal, completely forgetting I was surrounded by Mexican fans.

I'm sure it would have been fine if you cheered (aloud) just as hard when Mexico scored :D.

The crowd was good. There were 82,000 at the game so not too far off the main capacity.

There were plenty of Mexican waves going around the stadium, as you can imagine. :D

:'(

I celebrated Mexico's goals as well /smug1

Wembley /sus

Massive stadium. Holds 30,000 more than the Emirates, and you can certainly see the difference when you're there.

The pitch isnt as good though ^1^

I took some pictures. Ill add some of them in here tomorrow. /smug1

I've been to the new Wembley once so far. Back in 2009 when I saw Spurs play Barcelona in a pre-season friendly. :D We were sat so far up and back the players looked like specs.

Is anyone else watching the Equestrian Dressage on BBC1? I think its amazing how they get the horse to 'dance' to the music, some brilliant tracks being played aswell one of the British horses danced to a Lion King track with Hakuna Matata and Circle of Life etc. I dont get how the scoring goes but its brilliant to watch, kinda bought a lump to my throat the Lion king performance :cheesy:

I've been sat here pondering....

"I'm watching horses dance"

If I saw that as a facebook status update, I'd delete that numpty. In all honesty, I am intrigued as to how they get the horse to do it, it seems very unnatural to me, I don't really like it.

I guess the only way to find out is to put a hidden camera in their stable and put some MJ songs on to see if they start moonwalking :D

Well the whole Brazil team were just playing as individuals, credit to Mexico though for playing as a team and giving Brazil a tough game.

Neymar overrated??? Not sure at the moment only seen him play for national team and seems decent. Plus people maybe only see YouTube compilations of him so rate him as the best player in the world. YouTube can make any player look good

What's up with the talk of Neymar being overrated, can you please explain why :P? Plus if Lucas goes for 45 millions who hasn't played so much in the OS then Neymar should be like for 200millions :P And Messi should be unsellable because there wouldn't be any currency to pay Barcelona :D

Neymar seemed to struggle against a very average GB defence who weren't on the same wavelength as each other and now Mexico by all accounts .The shape and defence of teams in LdB is terrible from what I've seen of his video's too, at international level the times I've watched him it seems sometimes he does well and sometimes not so well. The majority European defences and shape is far, far better. He'll do well against the Wigan's, QPR's etc. but will struggle against any top 15 team in my opinion. Of course I could be wrong.

DieorBye
11 August 2012, 09:02 PM

Yes I agree it would be good to see how Neymar does in Europe and deal with Barca is not far off I feel. He seems destined to be there rather than any other club at the moment. Of course Europe is where you have to prove yourself and I said this before about some players and people disagreed with my comment last time round.

I am sure Neymar will not turn out to be a "Kerlon" who was hyped up so much with his seal dribble.
